The rave secretly organized in Lieuron, near Rennes in Brittany, in violation of French regulations against the coronavirus, began on New Year’s Eve and ended today with a barrage of fines. Some 1,200 people were fined out of a total of more than 2,500 participants, some of whom came from abroad, Spain and the United Kingdom. According to one testimony collected byAFP, the physical distancing within the disused warehouse where the rave was organized would not have been respected.
Clashes with the police
Some of the ravers responded to the police intervention by setting fire to a car and throwing objects at the police, injuring at least three policemen. In the early hours of the morning, around 5.30 on Saturday, most accepted that the party was over and left the warehouse where the event took place.
A sanitary cordon to avoid contagion
As of Friday night, the police had blocked the main entrances to the warehouse and a cordon was subsequently ordered, with everyone being recommended to practice self-isolation for a week. But they didn’t clear the building until the party was over. As reported by the French media, the organization of the event would have been very meticulous, complete with refreshments inside the warehouse. Those who were tired took refuge in their car to rest for a few hours. In addition to the audio equipment, generators and trucks were also seized inside the warehouse.
