CURTAIN – He’s not going to make us go through “the greaser.” GPB, the 26-year-old born and domiciled in Rome, residing in Sardinia, with family in Cortina, wants to tell his story. From the bed of the Infectious Diseases ward, in San Martino di Belluno, where he is hospitalized for pneumonia (he takes antibiotics and says he feels better), he sees accusations and “inappropriate comments” on social networks after the case that broke out in the Summer Cortina Fest. He says he attended the party on August 20 after having done everything as a script, as required for those returning from Sardinia. She testified to the hyssop result, which was negative, before hugging her 91-year-old grandmother in the Pearl of the Dolomites.
When did it all start?
«I left Sardinia, Costa Smeralda, on August 17 to visit some friends on the island of Albarella. After one night I went to the Padua hospital, with the doctor’s referral, and on the 18th I did a Covid swab. He was fine and in fact the test was negative, as reported on the afternoon of the 19th.
What do you say to those who accuse you of being irresponsible?
“I don’t know what else I could have done. I took a series of precautions, like spending the night with friends and not going directly to see my grandmother. I have the Immuni app and have not been to the Billionaire. When I had the negative result of the hyssop I felt free to start my vacation: hug my family and participate in that party.
What happened after?
«On the 22nd I started having a high fever, over 38, and I called the Belluno hospital. Meanwhile, I was contacted by people from Sardinia, my direct acquaintances, who were positive. While at my grandmother’s house, I called the Belluno hospital asking thousands of questions. But the responses were few, and I stayed home for two full days without a tampon. Later I learned that this friend of mine that I had been in contact with was positive. I told the USL, but it wasn’t enough: they asked the general practitioner to write to certify everything I said. At one point, I asked my father to accompany me to Belluno, where I presented myself with the doctor’s referral for the swab, which tested positive and I was hospitalized.
And what would have happened if the symptoms did not arise?
“I don’t know what it would have been like if I hadn’t moved on my own initiative. I can say from my experience that there was no desire to put on a tampon: it was two days when I had pneumonia and I put at risk not only my health but that of my grandmother and those who were at home with me, let them tell me that I am irresponsible for turning Cortina around. I could have caught the virus both in Sardinia and on the Venetian island or in Cortina ».
Its appeal?
“One thing that puzzled me is that no one tells you that if you test negative you are not necessarily negative and that there is an incubation period. I also told the hospital: maybe I should tell the patient about this, they told me I’m right, but they don’t. What a big mistake after 8 months of dealing with the Coronavirus. I have 4 friends who have had a serological and swab test, 3 out of 4 have had negative serological and positive swabs. They cleaned all the janitors and all the teachers, but what if one arrived, for example, from Sardinia, less than 15 days ago? It is absurd that the patient is not informed of the risk that exists. Of course, if I had known about this incubation period, I would not have gone to my grandmother.
