There is a premium of up to € 3,000 for consumers who use the card for their expenses. This was announced by Giuseppe Conte in an interview with La Stampa, providing some more details about the money-back plan implemented by the government to combat tax evasion. The cashback, which is the 10% refund on the amount spent with the card, is expected from December 1. It will be a maximum of 300 euros with a spending limit of 3,000 euros. But the main novelty that Conte talks about refers to the Befana bonus, now called super cashback: this will reach up to 3,000 euros per year and will be reimbursed every six months. The award will be dedicated to the 100,000 citizens who will use the card the most. These will not be calculated based on the amount spent, but based on the actual number of transactions made, even small amounts.
In the August decree, the government revived the refund mechanism with the aim of reducing the circulation of cash thus counteracting tax evasion. The plan was already part of the last Budget Law and will take effect on December 1. Initially, the executive thought of reimbursing only the expenses of some specific categories, those considered with the highest risk of evasion. However, it was later decided to extend the reimbursement to any expense, as long as it is done in person, in the store, avoiding the use of cash. Therefore, online expenses, for which it is already impossible to pay in cash, will be excluded. It is not yet clear how the refund will be made. Certainly, however, 10% of the expenses incurred will be returned. It is probably not awarded for less than € 3,000 a year. We also want to incentivize small payments, so a minimum threshold is likely to be placed on the number of transactions made to qualify for the bonus.
