An attempted robbery ended in blood, with the death of the bully and the wound of a carabiniere. This is what happened in Rome, in the Eur Serafico area, on the night of September 19-20. The thief, a 56-year-old man of Syrian origin with a criminal record, was hit by two shots fired by a soldier in an attempt to defend his colleague on patrol, who was previously attacked and wounded with a screwdriver by the unknown.

The attack on the carabiniere and then the shooting

It all started on Saturday night. A patrol of the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Nucleus intervened, following a complaint for theft, in an office building in via Paolo Di Dono, in the Eur district, in the southern part of the capital. As learned from the press agency Dnakronos, two soldiers entered the courtyard of a building where they intercepted the bully while trying to escape with other accomplices who were already on the run. Displaced and with no means of escape, he struck one of the two Carabinieri in the chest with a screwdriver, seriously wounding him. At that moment, the other carabiniere fired two shots with the service pistol at the attacker, fatally hitting him. Both shots, of which only one hit, were fired head-on, from top to bottom, in an attempt not to damage vital organs. In fact, the bullet-tip cones were found a few inches from the ground.

Military except for a mustache

the wounded carabiniere, whose personal data has not been provided, works at the Nucleo Radiomobile de Roma. The soldier was rushed to the Sant’Eugenio hospital but would not be in danger of death. The colleague who defended him, fortunately, was unharmed. As for the victim, he is a 56-year-old Syrian in possession of a regular residence permit and with a record of various crimes, including robbery, injuries and evasion.

The investigations

It is still unclear where criminal group had entered the building or what number they were in. The video surveillance images inside the building are also examined by researchers from the Investigation Unit and the Eur company to understand the path that the intruders have made in the complex and to identify what their objective was. It is not clear if they had already forced doors and desks, and that is also why the Surveys section is conducting investigations in search of fingerprints left by criminals, who may have counted on people outside the complex to escape perhaps in a car. The forensic doctor is conducting a first external examination of the 56-year-old man’s body to understand where the two bullets exploded by the wounded carabiniere’s colleague hit him.
