AGI – Became a test the counter exodus of tourists returning from the mountains of South Tyrol after a violent wave of bad weather that caused several floods and landslides. On a day that can be defined as a ‘tregenda’, thousands of people have to deal with a torrential rain that has caused serious interruptions to traffic with the closure, due to the flooding of the Adige river, of both the A22 Brenner motorway and the Brenner railway in Bassa Atesina south of Bolzano and in the Chiusa area.

The inconveniences began in the morning with a 10-kilometer queue on the northern lane of the Autobrennero between Bolzano Nord and Chiusa / Val Gardena, due to bad weather and urgent works.

In the afternoon, the situation worsened when the Adige River overflowed at Lana and Bassa Atesina. For preventive purposes, the 600 residents of the Egna municipality, from the streets of the urban area to the industrial estate, were evacuated and invited to seek refuge with relatives. A German-language secondary gymnasium was made available to the population as emergency accommodation. The Isarco river overflowed in Chiusa, a town in the valley with the same name, and Civil Protection has invited the population to leave the streets and public squares and move to the upper floors of the buildings.

Throughout South Tyrol, landslides have occurred on numerous roads: three state roads closed to traffic due to landslides or floods, the Brenner (SS12) near Campodazzo, the Alemagna (SS51) between Dobbiaco and Carbonin near from Landro and the Valle Aurina state highway (SS621) to Predoi. The Passo Palade (SS238) and Val Sarentino (SS501) state roads have been reopened.

Already in the night between Saturday and Sunday in Trentino-Alto Adige violent storms had broken out that caused landslides, landslides, flooding of basements but also of some streets of the city. At Cles, in Val di Non, a landslide struck the train carriage along the Trento-Malè railway track, causing no injuries but forcing the service to be interrupted. In the Madonna di Campiglio area, in the province of Trento, some landslides caused the closure of Val Nambrone and Val Genova, blocking several people in shelters.
