In addition to the request to the government to institute a curfew at 11 p.m., in the meeting held on Monday, October 19 with the president of the Attilio Fontana Region and all the mayors of the provincial capitals, all the parties intervened and shared the opportunity to close, on Saturday and Sunday, the medium and large commercial distribution, except for eating exercises and basic needs.

The phrase taken from a note of the Region, which portends an ordinance issued by Lombardy.

A substantial green light has come from the government (I agree with the hypothesis of more restrictive measures in Lombardy, stated the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza).

The Region note does not clarify, in detail, which shops will be closed: but as a general rule – based on the criteria defined in Legislative Decree 114 of March 31, 1998 – they are understood as mid-size sales structures companies with an area between 151 and 1,500 square meters in municipalities with a resident population of less than 10,000 inhabitants and between 251 and 2,500 square meters in municipalities with a resident population greater than 10,000 large sales structures stores with an area greater than the above limits.

Therefore, based on what is highlighted in the note, the department stores of non-essential goods would be closed.

The stores (of any size) of foods – that is, among others, supermarkets – and basic needs.

The ordinance will allow knowing which stores will be closed on weekends and which ones will be able to remain open.

The proposal, explain the local Lombard authorities, arises from the rapid evolution of the epidemiological curve and the forecast of the Indicators Commission established by the General Directorate of Welfare, according to which, as of October 31, there could be around 600 ICU patients and up to 4000 non-ICU. Until last October 11 – before, therefore, these latest estimates – the occupancy rate of intensive care places in the Region was 5.6%. For days the the number of new infections in Italy is growing at a much higher rate than that registered until the end of September. In Lombardy the situation is particularly delicate, for many reasons: 1,687 new positives were also registered on Monday, with a percentage of positives in relation to swabs made higher than the national one (11.5 percent).
