Eating is an unavoidable cost (if you want to survive). Going to the supermarket, perhaps close to home, is a daily affair. But despite everything, doing the calculations every month costs nothing. And if we are careful, we can save a lot of money at the end of each year. According to theStateItalian families spend an average of around 7,000 euros a year on purchases, but changing habits is an excellent strategy to guarantee a cart always full of savings that can exceed 1,700 euros every 365 days. Other consumption has managed to produce its annual report, even in the midst of the pandemic. And surprises are not lacking. The survey involved about 2,000 supermarkets and nearly 200 discount stores across the country. Well, this study highlights that the first place is awarded by Famila, while among the discount stores Aldi occupies the first place, followed by Eurospin and Md.
The convenience was evaluated based on the different composition of shopping cart of Italians, imagining a basket based on the purchase of branded products, commercial brand products and cheap products. Taking into account the cost of branded products, the Supermarket more convenient is Ipercoop, on par with Esselunga. Regarding the purchase of commercial brand products, we find Dok in the first place for convenience, especially widespread in southern Italy, and in second place the Conad stores.
Returning to the expenses of cheap products, 4 ex aequo strings are ranked first: Aldi ed Eurospin, for the second year in a row, along with Md and Penny Market. Finally, we come to the new ranking of the survey that analyzes stores in relation to the cost of organic products. First we find Dok, followed by the Famila group with Todis. Altroconsumo’s analysis also highlights a strong fluctuation in prices between one store and another, up to 340% for the same product in different stores. The prices of the large retailers have undergone particular variations during the blockage period, equivalent to almost 4-5% with peaks of 9% for detergents. Price increases during this critical phase were found to be constant. And today product price increases have almost completely recovered, with the exception of fruits and vegetables only.
Thanks to a specific survey on branded products in 693 supermarkets, carried out between June and July 2020, Altroconsumo analyzed the levels of savings of spending by geographic areas. The city where the greatest comfort is found is Milan, where citizens can save up to 1,769 euros. Speaking of outlets, however, the cheapest store is Conad City Spesa Facile in Pordenone, a city where savings of around € 1,100 can be achieved.
In southern cities, where the concentration of stores is lower (and there is less competition), the chances of saving are drastically reduced. You have to get to position 18 in the ranking before finding Naples. As the analysis highlights, in cities where there is less competition, such as Lecce or Taranto, annual savings of up to 300 euros can be achieved. Really little when compared to the stores in large urban centers.
