The Pope went early this morning to Piazza di Spagna and Santa Maria Maggiore to pay homage to Our Lady on the day of the Immaculate Conception.
“At 7:00 this morning, on the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Father went to Piazza di Spagna for an act of private veneration of Mary Immaculate.” This was reported by the director of the Vatican press office, Matteo Bruni.
“With the first light of dawn, in the rain, he placed a bouquet of white roses at the base of the column where the statue of the Virgin is located and he turned to her in prayer, so that she would look with love at Rome and its inhabitants, entrusting to all those in this city and in the world who suffer from illnesses and discouragement. Just before 7.15 in the morning, Pope Francis left Piazza di Spagna – continues Bruni – and arrived at Santa Maria Maggiore where he prayed in front of the icon of Maria Salus Popoli Romani and celebrated Mass in the Chapel of the Nativity. Then he returned to the Vatican. ”
