Stories of “normal ordeal” for those who hire Covid. Along with the events, rightly a priority, of those who end up in an intensive care bed due to a respiratory crisis and who, unfortunately, cannot survive by losing their lives, there are also the stories of the less serious, who together with their families and the smaller circle of coworkers and friends: they go through an odyssey of isolation, sometimes for weeks, sudden changes in all habits of life and even malabureaucracy. Being positive, even asymptomatically, in fact, implies arming yourself with patience and a certain dose of resignation, aware that the public hygiene offices in charge of managing the emergency are being overwhelmed by an enormous and growing amount of work. Unfortunately, this is a fact that has already emerged and will likely continue for the next several months.
Alessandra, a 37-year-old woman, mother of two children aged 8 and 2, who works in a supermarket in Forlì, tells her story of discomfort with a final joke. For 29 days, in fact, it has been “trapped” in the mesh of Covid’s management protocols. Everything begins on October 30 when the woman comes into contact with a positive, who manifests the symptoms of the next day and whose positivity is confirmed four days later. “On November 3 I inform my company that I have been in contact with the positive and they withdraw me from work as a precaution, the Public Hygiene only contacts me on November 5 and they give me an appointment for the tampon the next day, November 6, with my family. The same day I start to have symptoms such as generalized anosmia and cramps ”.
The result of the swab arrives on November 9, where it appears that Alessandra is positive and her family negative. For women, the doors of the Covid Hotel are opened: “On November 10, I was transferred to a Covid facility because the conditions in my home are not adequate to carry out adequate isolation to preserve the negativity of my family. Meanwhile, my husband and children remain at home in mandatory quarantine for having direct contact with me, which I am positive. On November 16 I am subjected to the healing swab which is still positive so I remain in the facility, my husband and my children undergo an end of quarantine swab on November 20 and we received the positive result of the child (asymptomatic) on November 22 and negative those of my husband and youngest son. On November 23, the hygiene department contacted me and they told me that the child will be taken to the center with me to preserve the negativity of my husband and the child, I agree and the child on November 24 is transferred to the center with me. ” Alessandra is locked in a hotel room, isolated from the rest of the world, for 14 days when, the next day, November 25, she is again subjected to a healing tampon that finally turns out negative.
But obviously the doors of the Covid Hotel do not open for her: “I still have to stay at the facilities to care for the girl.” Thus the joke, after so much discomfort, that many times arises from the folds of a very extensive legislation only in general terms: “Until today, November 27, the medical certificates cover the absence due to illness due to my positivity to Covid, and from tomorrow I decide to request parental leave from Covid for the quarantine of the child. However, the union patronage informs me that, since the child did not contract the virus within the school or similar structure, but contracted it from me, it does not exist no type of paid leave to deal with this type of contagion, for which there are only vacations and leave (which I do not have) or parental leave such as maternity, which in my case is not paid since the child is over 6 years “.
And he concludes: “From the beginning of all this unpleasant” adventure “my family and I have felt hostages of the” biblical “times of Public Hygiene that was not punctual in contacting the first infected and infinitely many times in the results of The tampons and it was followed that the contacts between us were the cause of the subsequent contagion. As a mother I find myself assisting my daughter without any support from the State because no one has foreseen that children could be, like us, victims of the slow and disorganized system that distinguishes us in this country, and that infections can also occur outside of school, even though parents work and are in daily contact with possible positive subjects. “
The other protest: “Long times of public hygiene”
On the same subject, another report arrives at the ForlìToday newsroom: “I am in quarantine, unfortunately like many others. 11 days have passed since the first swab. I already did the whole process to get the second tampon: I called the mobile number reported on the Internet of Public Hygiene to see if they could call me to be able to make the second tampon since 11 days had passed and for work reasons I had some urgency. The clerk not only answered me arrogantly, but she replied that I do not understand, that in this period they work from Monday to Sunday without stopping, and more than 200 tampons a day cannot. Was an acquaintance of mine called before 10 days, while those who have already finished the quarantine are not contacted? I hope that this message is taken into consideration by public health because people cannot remain locked up like lions in cages ”.
