The new colors of the regions

Starting today, Sunday, November 29, several Italian regions will change the color assigned by the government based on the epidemic risk of spreading the coronavirus. The decision was announced by the government two days ago. Lombardy, Piedmont and Calabria will go from the red zone, the one with the highest risk, to the orange one. Liguria and Sicily from the orange zone – the intermediate risk zone – will move to the yellow zone, where the restrictions are less severe.

The most anticipated decision concerned Lombardy and Piedmont, two of the regions most affected by the pandemic. The transition to the orange zone implies the possibility of moving freely within the municipality of residence (but not outside the municipality itself and the region) and the reopening of all commercial activities, not just food. On the other hand, bars, pubs, restaurants, ice cream parlors and patisseries will continue to be closed to the public and will be able to carry out exclusively take away food service (until 10 pm) and at home. Instead, middle school second and third graders can return for on-site lessons.

Instead, Liguria and Sicily move to the yellow zone, which has the least restrictions. In the regions that are located in the yellow zone, the so-called “curfew” applies from 22 to 5 in the morning, during which people cannot circulate except for “proven reasons of work, necessity and health” that must be self-certified . Instead, bars and restaurants will be able to reopen, albeit with time constraints.

In recent days there has been talk of a transition to the orange zone also in Tuscany, currently in the red zone. According to the indications of the Ministry of Health, Tuscany must remain in the red zone at least until November 29, that is, two weeks after being included among the areas with the highest risk of contagion. The president of the Tuscany region, Eugenio Giani, said that Tuscany will only be able to move to the orange zone from December 4, if contagion data allows it.
