AGI – A month has passed since Virginia Raggi’s new nomination for Capitol Hill and her rivals have yet to be elected. To have them we will have to wait at least in October, after the regional elections. Nobody seems to want to “get their hands dirty” in Rome at the risk of “burning themselves” politically. Because the city is nestled in its limits, squeezed between the magnificence of the monumental heritage and the difficulty of transforming itself into a modern capital, especially on the periphery.
And then the party for the Capitol is intimately linked to the national political scene. In the Democratic Party, the names of local and foreign exponents are hunted every day as possible competitors, but Nicola Zingaretti’s secretary for the Capital was thinking of a profile of national caliber. So far the investigation has not borne fruit, the “no thanks” from Enrico Letta and David Sassoli have arrived.
Some Democrats look to the Minister of Economy Roberto Gualtieri, but his disassociation from the government seems really difficult. The last to appear in the Democratic Party was Monica Cirinnà, a Capitol councilor for almost 20 years, who says she is ready to appear in the primaries. For weeks, the senator has been working on the hypothesis of a candidacy and ad hoc polls have also been carried out on her behalf.
Cirinnà’s hypothesis
His release, however, according to which filters, would have been received lukewarm among Democrats for fear of a resurgence of faces and content linked to past seasons of the center-left in the Campidoglio. A left bank could come from Massimiliano Smeriglio, MEP and former vice president of the Lazio Region. Before her, the municipal presidents Giovanni Caudo, Sabrina Alfonsi, Amedeo Ciaccheri and the president of the observatory had given their willingness to run to the primaries ‘Rome can be said out loud!’ Tobia Zevi.
The regional councilor of Demos Paolo Ciani, linked to the Community of Sant’Egidio, also competes. The Rays have requested a second term speaking of the need to complete the work started and keep the flag of legality high. The mayor asks the government for more powers and 25,000 million euros for the city from the recovery fund.
The center right thinks about it
But the Democratic Party, an ally of the 5-Star government, has no intention of supporting it. However, data from the last electoral rounds in the city in hand, only one of the two ruling parties seems destined to arrive on a ballot against the center-right. A candidate from the right is also missing, who will arrive after the regional one. Rumors speak of a possible agreement between Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni according to which the former would have the choice of the name to race in Milan and the latter for Rome.
While waiting to be seated at a debating table, the League leader has launched a city-wide themed billboard campaign that would have upset the allies of the Italian Brothers for the invasion of the countryside. Some sources maintain that the ideal name considered would be that of the police chief Franco Gabrielli, former prefect of the city, but the interested party reiterated that he did not intend to run for the Capitol. Rumors about a possible involvement of the technician Flavio Cattaneo have also found the denial of the interested party. For several weeks, therefore, Raggi seems destined to continue in a campaign without rivals.
