A Geneva, a major Swiss city, has just introduced a minimum salary corresponding to 3,500 euros per month.
More precisely, it will be 23 Swiss francs the minimum hourly rate, for 3,772 Swiss francs per month considering a work week of just over 40 hours.
Which is equivalent to 3,496.18 euros per month minimum wage that a worker can earn in the Swiss city. This after the vote in favor of the introduction of the minimum wage, which came last Sunday by almost two-thirds of the voters.
It is – must be specified – the world’s highest minimum wage, with figures that, compared to the Italians, literally make you pale, reaching almost three times the minimum wage of the beautiful country.
Geneva: the minimum wage is € 3,500 per month
Nearly two-thirds of the canton of Geneva voted Sunday to introduce the minimum wage, now the highest in the world.
According to press sources, the country should be implemented starting this month, after the measure was rejected by voters in 2011 and 2014.
The coronavirus pandemic has raised the problem of poverty in Geneva with greater urgency, with reports of thousands of people queuing to eat.
The city is in fact known as one of the most expensive in the world, ranked ninth in the 2020 global cost of living survey conducted by consultancy Mercer.
Michel Charrat, president of the European cross-border grouping, told The Guardian that the vote to approve the measure represented a “Sign of solidarity” towards the poorest residents of Geneva:
“The coronavirus has shown that a part of the Swiss population cannot live in Geneva”,
commented.
The new minimum wage in force is more than three times the US, still standing in $ 7.25 an hour, and much more than double that of Italian, just over 9 euros per hour.
