The demonstration was organized on social networks (for example here) and includes several conspiratorial and far-right organizations, opposed to measures to contain the spread of contagion.

The protesters argue that the pandemic is an excuse for the government to oppress the “people” and are united by the slogan “against the health, financial and judicial dictatorship”; One of the largest banners was written “We are the people”, many shouted the word “Freedom”, almost no one wore a mask or respected physical distance. In the last 24 hours, 158 new positive cases have been registered in Lazio, of which 108 in Rome; one person died.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte commented on the protest saying that “to those who are in Rome today and think that the pandemic does not exist, we will respond with figures, 274 thousand infections and 35 thousand deaths.” A few hours before the start of the event, PD Secretary Nicola Zingaretti had requested its cancellation on Twitter.

The president of Fratelli d’Italia, Giorgia Meloni, instead defended the demonstration saying that “the deniers of the virus are in the government and they are all those who have not made arrangements on time.”
