Although serological tests are expected to be available in pharmacies, the novelty of the moment is an ‘express’ swab, made in Italy, to detect whether the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus is positive or not. It is done on a saliva sample and gives the result in three minutes.
It comes from a company in Brianza, the ‘Allum’ de Merate (Lecco), which announced today in a note that it has “passed the tests for approval by the Ministry of Health” and is ready to start production. A ‘leap of sector’ for the manufacturer of lighting systems. From lamps to pads.
The rapid test was christened ‘Daily buffer’ and it gives the result as a pregnancy test: two positive strips, one negative. It is proposed as a useful test for managing mass flows. Allum di Merate explains that it can produce 20 million swabs, for the detection of the virus that causes Covid-19.
It is a tool that can help “restart sectors that have been unemployed since last March”, is highlighted in the note released by the Api Lecco and Sondrio Association (Association of small and medium industry in the province of Lecco and Sondrio) , to which the Allum company is associated. “In Italy there is no such solution, Allum is the first to implement it”, they explain.
The test works like this: A saliva sample is taken with a cotton swab, the latter is placed on the swab and in three minutes, with the joint use of three reagents, the swab returns the result. The test could be used in contexts such as “schools, hospitals”, but also to “regain an audience in sectors that are unemployed, or forced to operate ‘behind closed doors’, such as sports or music.”
The product, it is emphasized, has a lower price than current buffer: “It costs less than half of what is used today.”
