Here we go again. On the day that registrations for the money-back scheme are opened, which should allow Italians to recover a percentage of purchases made with digital currency, the IO application goes haywire and citizens cannot access the service or register to through the application.
On the eve of the departure of the Cashless plan launched by the government as of December 8, inefficiencies and application crashes occur. Social networks, especially Twitter, are flooded with user protests. Many report that they cannot register the ATM card, others simply cannot enter or download the app.
“At the moment – explains Codacons – there are slowdowns and malfunctions of the App io, with the impossibility of accessing the ‘Wallet’ section and registering the cards themselves to use them in payments for cashback purposes”. “When accessing this section -continues- the app first asks you to wait for the page to load and then warns, after several minutes of waiting, that at this moment it is not possible to load the payment methods, inviting you to return to try it at another time ”.
“We are shocked by these technical problems that arise on the eve of the departure of the extra Christmas cashback, when the service should work perfectly – says Codacons president Carlo Rienzi – We will continue to monitor the situation and, if the losses and slowdowns continue, we are ready to request that the entire cashback plan be blocked until full equal access to citizens is guaranteed ”.
But how does the plan work? When they finally manage to make the system work, spending with cards will produce an effective discount of 10% that will be returned to citizens in their checking account. From December 8 to December 31, 2020, in fact, the Christmas Extra Cashback will be active, to have a 10% refund up to a maximum of 150 euros that will be paid to users in the first months of 2021. To achieve this, 10 purchases are enough with credit, debit and prepaid cards: Amex, Bancomat, Diners, Maestro, Mastercard, PostePay, VISA, V-Pay, Nexi and payment applications such as Satispay, Yap and Hype. Google Pay and Apple Pay are immediately available for only some cards, starting in January 2021 for all.
As of January 1, however, the real Cashback will begin and it will be possible to obtain a 10% refund on the amount of purchases made with cards or payment applications in stores, bars and restaurants, supermarkets and large distribution or for artisans and professionals. Online purchases do not compete. There is no minimum amount of expenditure and it is possible to obtain reimbursements of up to 300 euros per year. Every 6 months, if a minimum of 50 payments are made, the user will receive 10% of the amount spent, up to a maximum of 150 euros in total refund. The maximum refund per single transaction is 15 euros.
