“The virus that is spreading around the world right now is not the Wuhan virus. It is the virus from northern Italy ”. So says the well-known German virologist Alexander Kekulé. During the German ZDF network talk show “Markus Lanz”, the director of the Institute for Medical Microbiology at the Universitätsklinikum Halle stated that “the virus currently circulating is actually a variant that has appeared in northern Italy.”
According to the virologist, the variant is more contagious than that of Wuhan. “Currently 99.5% of all global cases can be genetically traced back to the Northern Italian virus,” says Kekulè. “Even the current cases in China are re-imports from Europe and the rest of the world.” “Are the Chinese right when they say that we Europeans are responsible for the global pandemic?” Director Lanz asked. “No”, replied the virologist, “the virus would also have spread throughout the world in that way.”
The difference is that in Wuhan “they did not know what they were facing”, while the warnings from China had already reached northern Italy, “ignored for a long time”, says the virologist. In China, on the other hand, the virus would have been “controlled” using “methods that we do not accept here.”
