Observing the panorama of the Farra di Soligo hills from above, on the sunny day of yesterday, Thursday, September 17, and today, Friday, 18, was according to Mayor Mattia Perencin the most immediate and sincere method to tell journalists the closest thing to Meaning of the Unesco Heritage Core Zone: the mayor’s initiative, presented some time ago with a letter, led to scrutinizing the industriousness from above, almost like bending down to look at an anthill, in the towns of the municipality that represent the true essence of what which is commonly called “heroic viticulture”.
For the first citizen, the need arose, made explicit in a letter just a few days ago, to underline that subtle but somewhat abysmal distinction that separates viticulture in the plain from that of the hills. The history of effort, of the objective inconvenience of a crop that has its roots only in passion and not in pure profit. The tour touched on different locations in the municipality, from Soligo to San Virgilio, along the Sentiero delle Vedette, and allowed to see different types of crops and diverse panoramas, even those that have not been disclosed as “Unesco postcards”.
However, the term “heroes”, in common use, is not to everyone’s liking: the grape pickers who still fight on the slopes, between one cut and another, tell of their parents’ business, in their opinion much more difficult and complex due to the total absence of mechanical or technological conveniences.
To write, photograph and film these realities, (with Qdpnews.it) specialized press and team committed to making short films about local characters, who do not always have time to deepen and then transmit these messages, if not to live them in the first person .
The verb promote, for Farra di Soligo and beyond, would reside precisely in guiding tourists and, in this case, tourism promoters, through a history formed by experiences.: see the busy harvesters climbing the slopes of the vineyards with buckets full of grapes, distinguish between the vines an olive tree or a piece of wood, touch the rock from which the hills are made, the one that allows the terraces, feel the sun on the skin and sweat on the back, these are the methods to explain what is special about a hillside vineyard. And also the taste of a glass of prosecco, at the end of the day, thus acquires a different and conscious flavor.
