A scientific study is being carried out on the medium and long-term consequences on the health of patients who have contracted Covid-19 in South Tyrol and Tyrol.
An interdisciplinary team from the Institute of General Medicine of the “Claudian” Provincial Higher School of Health, in collaboration with the University Clinic of Innsbruck, leading partner of the study, is in charge of this.
The research assumption is that being cured does not always mean having a full recovery.
According to a British study, in fact, 40% of Covid-19 patients admitted to hospital need long-term support after discharge.
Even 10% of patients with a mild course of the disease can show symptoms up to four weeks after infection. Mild complaints, such as fatigue, shortness of breath, or headache, can persist for weeks or months.
And other serious illnesses, such as a stroke or heart attack, can only appear after several weeks. Information on the course of the disease and long-term consequences, gathered from patients, according to the researchers, can provide important clarifications and new insights needed to treat patients with Covid-19.
All patients recovered from Covid-19, adults and residents of South Tyrol, will be able to participate in the study, which will be carried out by completing an online questionnaire.
Specifically, those who have had a positive Covid-19 swab before October 12, 2020, including those who have had mild symptoms, can participate; Also, it will need to be cured for at least two weeks. Participation in the study will also be carried out thanks to the involvement of general practitioners, who should be contacted by those interested in order to receive more information.
There will be no need for a doctor visit, samples, or other swabs.
