An area of ​​icy air, with an axis running from the Scandinavian peninsula to northern Spain, tends to descend in latitude, causing the formation of a minimal depression in the lower layers of the Gulf of Liguria, bringing cold north currents through the door of the bora, causing a sudden fall. temperatures and snowfalls down to low altitudes in the north, later also in the central-south regions.
