The Christmas closure is triggered, Italy in the red zone until 27 – Chronicle

The anti-Covid Christmas blockade is triggered today: the whole of Italy enters the red zone until the 27th. Yesterday, last minute purchases in retail stores, now closed by decree. The last purchase, the last minute gift, but also the last walk before Christmas waiting for the ‘traffic light’ of the national maxi-zone to turn red. In large cities, the main shopping streets have been robbed, from Milan to Rome and Turin. Last remnants of business, most likely, before the start of the winter sales.
Thus, many merchants throughout Italy, faced with the intermittent closings of the next fortnight, have decided to say enough. And ‘say it’ in large letters, with clear, round signs on the window. However, today the controls for compliance with regulations will be intensified in large cities. But meanwhile, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte reassures us: the Christmas squeeze could allow us to face January “dosing the measures only where necessary between the yellow, orange and red zones.” Supermarkets and pharmacies remain open.

Meanwhile, the threshold of 70,000 Covid victims has been exceeded since the start of the pandemic in Italy.
