AGI – In an appeal addressed to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, more than a hundred scientists and university professors ask “to take strict and drastic measures in the next two or three days” to stop the spread of Covid infections that they warn could “lead to several hundred deaths a day” in the coming weeks.
In the appeal, signed among others by the rector of the Scuola Normale Superiore de Pisa, Luigi Ambrosio, by the president of Ingv Carlo Doglioni, by the rector of the Gran Sasso Institute, Piero Marcati, the academics express their “deepest concern about the current phase of spread of the pandemic ”and recall the estimates of the president of the Accademia dei Lincei, Giorgio Parisi, second to whom in mid-November in Italy there could be 500 daily deaths.
According to scientists, they also include jurists and economists, “the necessary reconciliation of the needs of the economy and the protection of workplaces with those of containing the spread of infection must now give way to the imperative need to safeguard the right to individual and collective health enshrined in article 32 of the Constitutional Charter as inviolable “.
Also because, the academics argue, all economic activities would be in any case “inevitably threatened by the result of an uncontrolled spread of the pandemic that lasted many months.”
