The bishop’s prayer over the body
“Pain and pride for this priest”
Monsignor Cantoni in San Rocco: “He gave his life for the least amount.” The diocese: “The Church of Como prays for him and for those who killed him.” The rosary tonight
With the Gospel in hand, Monsignor Oscar Cantoni stopped this morning to pray over the body of Don Roberto Malgesini. As soon as he was informed of the tragedy, the bishop ran to Piazza San Rocco and asked the police officers present for the opportunity to approach the body and recite a prayer.
The bishop, expressed his first words to the Diocesan Weekly, speaking of “deep pain and disorientation for what happened”, but also “pride of this priest of ours, who has always worked in the field to give his life for the last.”
The news of the death of the priest originally from Cosio, in the province of Sondrio, immediately spread through the Diocese of Como, where Don Roberto was well known for his commitment to the marginalized.
From the diocese they announced that the bishop will lead the Rosary tonight at 8:30 p.m. in the cathedral. “In the face of the tragedy – words from the curia – the Church of Como is pressing in prayer for its priest Don Roberto and for those who have beaten her to death.”
