It is the last weekend before December 25th. the Weekend that precedes the Christmas sends the government into a frenzy. The danger is that the shopping fever becomes an accelerator of contagion. What is also concerning is the risk of exodus before the movement ban kicks in on December 21. For this reason, 70,000 men and women of the police will be in the field from today until Monday. THE MEETING
During the meeting, a balance of the situation was made, the scenario was defined and therefore the strengthening of the territory control activity was established, also in relation to the fight against street crimes, which could be increased by the greater circulation of people. With respect to move The inspections will take place in public and entertainment venues and in areas where youth are commonly found. Finally, in anticipation of the intensification of travel, linked to the entry into force, as of next December 21, of new measures restricting mobility throughout the country, it was decided to intensify road controls with various roadblocks, again for avoid meetings, in train stations, ports and airports.
This is the hottest weekend of the year, in which traditionally the streets and squares are filled with people looking for the last Christmas present. Therefore, the possibility of excessive crowds in shops and on the main streets of cities is concerned.
In fact, until a few days ago there had been numerous controversies over the images of large cities overflowing with people, despite the fact that the number of coronavirus infections remains high. So much so that politics had debated the hypothesis of advancing the restrictions for the Christmas period already for this weekend, with the objective, in fact, of avoiding gatherings that favored a circulation of virus.
However, even if the new national rules are not applied, local authorities have the right to independently introduce other restrictions to avoid overcrowding.

LOCAL AUTHORITIES
As provided by the Dpcm itself, the governors of the Regions can adopt stricter regulations at the local level. Therefore, theoretically, the Presidents of the Regions could also intervene this weekend with closure measures, restrictions on business hours or on the movement of citizens. In fact, the text ratified by the executive on December 3 reads as follows: “The streets or squares of urban centers, where congestion situations can be created, can be closed to the public throughout the day or at certain times. the possibility of access and exit to legitimate businesses and private homes ”.
Therefore, local authorities could decide to limit travel or close some areas, again to avoid aggregations of people. In Veneto, for example, among the Regions most affected by the second wave, Governor Luca Zaia had already activated an anti-assembly ordinance to better regulate access to public places: now he has announced another to limit the movements that would already come into force starting on Saturday 19. At the press conference on the epidemiological situation, Zaia said that from December 19 to January 6 it will be possible to leave the municipality at 2 p.m., after that time it will not be possible to cross the borders of the respective city except for work, health or necessity.
In any case, the more restrictive rules could be used not only by the Presidents of the Regions, but also by the mayors who can take measures in this regard.
