What game are we playing? Probably to that of the most intelligent, in which the Italians are masters. In Termoli even more. It is enough to do a tour between Corso Nazionale and Piazza Insorti di Hungary every afternoon after 6 pm to make sure that the bars, not all, but most, do not respect the obligation to close at 6 pm In this way, for therefore, they implement a real unfair competition towards activities that instead respect the rules to the letter. And above all, they increase the risk of infections that, as is known, Termoli does not seem to want to stop. With its 278 current positives, Termoli is the city that registers the highest number of cases in relation to the number of inhabitants. Campobasso, which with its 50,000 inhabitants almost doubles the Adriatic town, has 284 positives on the data updated to today December 21.
In short: at the beginning of November the Conte government decided to impose the early closure of bars, pubs and restaurants across the country at 6:00 p.m. In Termoli, as in much of Italy, many businessmen took to the streets peacefully protesting against this Dpcm. Legitimate, in many cases acceptable.
Except that since then, and especially in this run-up to Christmas, many of those in the square that day have decided to give a damn about a rule designed to prevent the spread of Sars-Cov-2. And so the closure has been lengthening every day: a Saturday at 6:10 p.m., a Sunday at 6:20 p.m. (dozens of reader reports, some of which published with accompanying photos are proof of this) and even today, December 21, a Monday close to Christmas, many places in the center of Termoli were open at 6.45 p.m.
In the vicinity of these bars, or even inside, customers with the intention of having a beer or a snack. Not the gatherings that were mostly seen on weekends, in gazebos full of people who obviously weren’t wearing masks, between a sip and a puff of a cigarette.
It is not known if these behaviors are directly related to Termoli infections, but the point is that there is a national rule that is wonderfully ignored in Termoli and the real risk is that around Christmas and New Years Eve it is even worse.
Do you really want to believe that an extra half hour of opening changes the financial fortunes of a bar or pub?
But above all, one wonders what happened to them good intentions from the public safety committee, the joint verifications announced, but also the simple presence of a patrol from time to time, if only to show the presence of the state. Someone even went to the trouble of phoning the police, but that trend remained. It seems, although without certainty, that the indication is to close not one, but both eyes to a clear violation of the law.
