Two demonstrations on the same day. On the one hand, the Sì Tav, who gathered in Piazza Castello in Turin to reaffirm their support for the work. On the other hand, the No Tav, which instead organized a procession in Giaglione, a municipality recently, was the subject of an order from the prefecture for the expansion of the site with a view to resuming work.
This morning there were a score of Yes Tavs. “We took to the streets to reiterate that the Tav is a fundamental work – said Mino Giachino, representative of the movement in favor of the work – We will again make ourselves heard en masse when the Covid emergency ends.”
An act that was commented on by the regional councilor Francesca Frediani, M5S and opposed to the work: “I advise Giachino and the Madams to go shopping today, it would undoubtedly be a better help for the Piedmontese economy.”
Hundreds in place of No Tav who gathered in the morning at the Giaglione sports ground for an assembly before the procession to the Chiomonte construction site. In recent days, the mayor of Giaglione, Marco Rey, had spoken of the militarization of his country: “We woke up with a country that was militarized and guarded at all accesses by the police. It’s hard to feel like unwanted guests in your own home.
Shortly after the procession began, made up of numerous people. However, a group of 250 activists separated from the rest of the march and threw firecrackers at the mobile units of the police forces at the gate of the Gallo-Roman road. The police responded with tear gas.
