An uncontrolled river of water suddenly flooded the road, washing away a car with two people on board. A 26-year-old from Stio Cilento she lost her life, the other person who was with her managed to save herself from the fury of the current. The tragedy took place at sunset in Albanella, a town in the province south of Salerno who, between the ages of 18 and 19, was hit by a violent water pump. The large amount of rain that fell on the municipal area caused the flooding of the Malnome stream that invaded the road. A column of water that, near a bridge, hit a passing car, in which the two people were traveling.
The uncontrolled flow dragged the car several meters: one of the two passengers managed to avoid being swept away by the current and apparently saved himself by clinging to a tree. However, the 26-year-old was expelled from the cabin and was held prisoner by the water that overwhelmed her and carried her away. His body was found dead around 9:30 p.m. in the village of Piano del Carpine. For hours, rescuers searched the territory in the hope of finding the girl alive. The rescue operations involved firefighters, along with the Carabinieri of the Agropoli Company, the local police, civil protection and health. Several citizens also joined the rescuers.
“It was an invasion of water” said the mayor of Albanella, Rosolino Bagini who closely followed the investigation. “The level has risen so fast and so fast that it has crossed the bridges. The entire territory suffered considerable damage, several trees were cut down and some ridges collapsed. It is a great tragedy ”.
