The regional council approved the project to detect the population of Marche for the prevention of the spread of Covid-19 late in the afternoon today. Marche is the first region to promote a large-scale initiative, after the extensive screening project carried out in recent days in South Tyrol. It starts from December 18 from the provincial capitals (Ancona, Pesaro, Macerata, Ascoli Piceno and Fermo), followed by cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants (Senigallia, Jesi, Osimo, Fabriano, Falconara Marittima, San Benedetto del Tronto, Porto Sant’Elpidio, Civitanova Marche, Recanati and Fano), and a target population of 698,651 inhabitants, to then continue in January with the second phase, which will involve all the other municipalities in the Marches with less than 20,000 inhabitants, for one objective of 819,749 citizens.

“This is how we attack the pandemic”

“This mass prevention operation is taking shape, which aims to identify, track and isolate the virus as far as possible – as President Francesco Acquaroli said -. The effort made will be considerable but necessary to try to stop the devastating effects of the pandemic on the health and safety of Marche. It is important to protect the stability of the hospital network and local medicine and, at the same time, try to limit and insure society and the economy as much as possible from the serious consequences of this last period. It is a challenge that must be met together with the availability, responsibility and collaboration of all. Thanks to all who will collaborate in the best result of the operation.

How screening works and who is it for

The screening will be free and voluntary. Rapid antigenic swabs will be used, which with the ease of execution and short response times (15-30 minutes) will ensure the possibility of completing the generalized screening in a short time. Asur employees will be involved with the participation of volunteers from the Italian Red Cross, universities, professional associations, Ooss, Civil Protection, Misericordie, Anpas, medical specialists and nursing science students, and other subjects who will be available for activities of logistical and administrative support. Stations will be installed in the municipality where the rapid tests will be carried out. The exam is open to all citizens and to all citizens over 6 years of age. It is also open to people staying in the municipalities identified for work or study reasons. Minors must be accompanied by a parent. People who have symptoms that indicate a Covid-19 infection and those who are currently ill for any other reason are excluded from the assessment. Those who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last three months, those who are already in quarantine or in fiduciary isolation, those who have already reserved the execution of a molecular swab, those who regularly perform tests for professional reasons, those under 6 years and people admitted to sanitary and socio-sanitary facilities, including public and private rest homes.
