It’s not even time to say goodbye to Tom Cruise and his twist as Piazza Venezia prepares to welcome a new star. In fact, tonight will begin the assembly and preparation of Spelacchio, the Christmas tree in Rome that has become famous throughout the world.

It will be a natural spruce of the Abies Nordmanniana type, about 23 meters high and with a crown diameter at the base of 12 meters. It will be supplied by a nursery in the province of Varese: it took three days to hoist it onto the trucks and at this time it is on its way to the capital. It will be illuminated with 100,000 LED lights (last year for Netflix it was 80,000) and decorated with 800 spheres (1000 in 2019) in four colors: red, silver, deep gold and light gold. It will be inaugurated, as usual, on December 8 by the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi.

There are no sponsors this year and costs will be borne by the Rome City Council. The cost of transportation, installation and assembly amounts to approximately 140 thousand euros.

Also this year our “Spelacchio” returns, the Christmas tree in Rome now famous all over the world. At this difficult time for all citizens, we want these lights to maintain the hope of a peaceful Christmas but above all to give the Force to all to resist and overcome together the challenge of the health emergency ”, declares the first citizen, Virginia Raggi.
