A certain commotion, a great fright and the sound of the firemen’s siren, which always takes effect in the villages. All this for an unusual Sunday morning.
Hustle, dismay, and sirens for a fire. We are in Lodrone, the last town in Giudicarie on the Caffaro state road before the border with Lombardy. It is just after eight in the morning and the owners of the apartment located on the ground floor of a building (elderly mother and daughter) are lighting the fire. Classic family photo from the morning when you just got out of bed. The other son lives upstairs with his family, who is having breakfast at that time.
Suddenly the accident. The exact causes are not yet clear. The fact is that the sparks must have come from the stove that immediately attacked the sofa placed right next to the stove. The problem is that the apartment has a false ceiling covered in polystyrene, a notoriously flammable material. In fact, the polystyrene caught fire, so the risk of a large fire was immediately apparent.
The son realized the situation and called the volunteer firefighters and went downstairs to help his mother and sister out of the apartment. Firefighters from the Storo station (of which Lodrone is a village) quickly intervened. First (a few minutes) Lodrone’s men arrived, warned by the selective. Immediately afterwards the other members of Commander Alessandro Giacco’s Storo corps arrived with the fire truck. On Sunday morning they were at the barracks for the weekly meeting, so they left immediately.
The fire was quickly extinguished. Compared to the initial fears, there are no consequences for the inhabitants of the apartment, immediately released. And there is no structural damage to the house either: of course, the furniture is the one that has suffered the most from smoke and fire.
The mayor of Storo Nicola Zontini and the deputy mayor Claudio Cortella also quickly arrived at the scene, who in the end, after checking the health of the two unfortunate women, thanked the firefighters for the punctuality of the intervention.
