The Coc (Municipal Operation Center) met and, based on the declaration of yellow snow alert status in the territory of the Municipality of Genoa, issued by the Liguria Region, implemented the actions provided for by the Municipal Emergency Plan.
For the management of snow and meteorological risk, the following measures have been adopted:
Amiu was alerted to arrange for the passage of salt spreaders along the main road network and in mountainous areas, depending on the evolution of weather conditions and the need. There are a total of 20 salt spreading vehicles ready to intervene. Amiu operates in a preventive manner, ensuring routes according to a different priority scale, favoring the level 1 and level 2 connecting axes. In the snowfall phase, the special vehicles that ensure the clearing of the city streets operate in close contact with Amt.
Amt has activated the preventive measures established by the Snow Alert procedure, which provides for the circulation monitoring of vehicles and the provision of chains if the evolution of the climatic conditions requires it. Service could be slowed down or limited, especially in mountainous areas.
Volunteers from Municipalities and Civil Protection have been alerted to “salting” interventions in pedestrian paths of competition and in spaces in front of public buildings of municipal jurisdiction and / or open to the public and related access roads. I am 50 volunteers who will do the monitoring in the territory. The Municipal Police has reinforced the ready-to-use service in any critical situation related to the alert. AsTer has activated its internal emergency plan. The local associations that collaborate with the Municipality were contacted for the reception plan for homeless people.
During the alert period, citizens must adopt, citywide, the behaviors ofpersonal protection in the event of a snow alert. In particular:
– remove snow and ice in front of your door, driveway or store, but do not move it onto the road: it could be an obstacle;
– remove icicles and snow accumulations from balconies, gutters or other ledges;
– sprinkle an adequate amount of salt in cleared areas, if frosty conditions are anticipated;
– pay special attention to snow plates which, especially in the thaw phase, can detach from the roofs;
– move by car only if it is strictly necessary and only if it is equipped with winter tires or snow chains, finding out in advance the state of the road. If possible, use public transportation;
– two-wheeled mopeds and motorcycles may not drive on snow or in the presence of snow and / or ice;
– do not go under the eaves of buildings, roofs, streetlights, trees: blocks of ice or snow could break off.
