Just some cookies and a glass of milk to win over Santa Claus in Lucera. But cookies are for reindeer, Santa Claus prefers the “mama crustole”. The children know it very well when last night they received a ‘special’ video call: that of Santa Claus himself, who hired new ‘elves’ from the little Lucerini (and some from Foggia) on Facebook.
With a long white beard, glasses, and a classic dress with fur trim, Santa Claus is the Antonio Tutolo you don’t expect. The former mayor of Lucera and current councilor gets involved to get everyone to make a promise: “Be good. If you make fun of me, I’ll bring you all the broken gifts.” The threat appears to be working.
Collect wishes and dispenses wishes. The most difficult wish to fulfill? “We want this Covid-19 to disappear,” asks Noemi. An impossible feat even for him. Then he challenges a child to the play station: “If when I come you are awake, I challenge you. But if you lose you don’t have to cry: I am strong,” he admits. At the end of the phone session, it can be said that the evening is over: “I go to bed fun and happy,” says Tutolo. “The amazed eyes of children are the best cure for the soul.” Santa Claus will be back on video from 6 pm to 9 pm
