“Skipass only for those who have second homes or book a night in a hotel” – Corriere.it

The alpine arc regions are doing their best to get the government ski lifts and slopes open. And in the guidelines drawn up by the councilors of Piedmont, Aosta Valley, Lombardy, Bolzano Province, Trento Province, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, a “solution” stands out above all: the possibility of skiing can only be granted to those who stay at less one night in different destinations or for those who own or rent a second home in the ski areas. In this way we try to reduce the magnitude of the foreseeable assault on cable cars and ski lifts, trying to reconcile the passion for skiing with the necessary requirements for health protection. “The solution that we propose to the Conte government allows the winter season to start gradually, in this way the security protocols that we approved last Monday can be applied and put to the test – the councilors wrote in the document sent to Palazzo Chigi – . The government listens to us, allows the opening of the ski lifts with this criterion and allows regional mobility ”.

The drinks

But the government, through the mouth of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte but also Health Minister Roberto Speranza himself, has already said, and reiterated on several occasions, that given the high number of infections registered even in these days (although slowing down, something that has allowed some regions to get out of the more restrictive regime) we cannot afford to create meeting opportunities as would happen if the go-ahead for skiing were granted. Other meetings between the government and the Regions are scheduled between Monday and Tuesday with a view to signing the new Dpcm which is expected to be fired by the end of the week. There will be final decisions also in relation to the opening or not of the ski resorts. Otherwise, the presidents of the regions have called for adequate refreshments to be provided for those who will be forced to keep hotels, hostels, restaurants and facilities closed. In this sense, the governor of Veneto Luca Zaia expressed himself in an interview with Corriere.

The Aosta Valley proposal

The Christmas and New Year holidays, however, do not exhaust the problem. Because the actual ski season usually covers the weeks from the end of January to the end of March (the famous white weeks). What to do? Is everything still closed or can we think about loosening the grip and allowing a gradual and controlled recovery? At the moment there is no indication of any kind of Rome. It is clear that everything is linked to the contagion curve, the arrival of the vaccine and the behavior of the Italians. But there are those who keep thinking about how to protect themselves. This is the case of Valle d’Aosta where the preventive buffer is being considered: those who want to go skiing on the slopes of the Region must undergo the test within the previous 72 hours (hypothesis that the president of Sardinia had also advanced last summer Solinas). Since so-called “quick swabs” are spreading, a wide use of these tests would allow a preflight of people who intend to reach a ski resort. A preventive measure to accompany the precautionary provisions (spacing, masks, reduction of accesses) to allow a minimum of activity.
