The President of the Region, Nino Spirlì, during the meeting of theCovid-19 crisis unit, which took place this morning, underlined the need to suspend school education in the presence of all order and degree schools and in the universities of Calabria.
Longo and SpirlìThe provision will be ratified by a specific ordinance, which will be effective from Monday, March 8, 2021 until the next two weeks. Face-to-face teaching will be allowed only in cases of serious disabilities of students and for a limited number of hours.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Health Commissioner, Guido Longo – President Spirlì urged a decisive intervention to stop the variants of the virus. “We cannot wait any longer to try to counter them. Our health care – he said – can not bear the impact of a sharp increase in cases of infections.
Therefore, the Crisis Unit considered it opportune to quickly activate sequencing for the screening of already known variants of the virus, in parallel with the increase in the vaccination campaign.
It was also pointed out that the “Mater Domini” hospital in Catanzaro, according to the genomics center of the “Magna Graecia” University, has already started a specific investigation with swabs from the five provinces of Calabria.
VACCINATION POINTS
The Crisis Unit has also decided to carry out the analysis of the volumes of the activities of the vaccination points, in order to verify the real progress of the campaign. It was also decided to establish 32 vaccination centers in the main municipalities of the social welfare districts.
In addition, the shortage in the operation of the 78 administration points present in the regional territory was highlighted.
The subject was at the center of another meeting, which took place this afternoon, which was attended, in addition to President Spirlì and Commissioner Longo, all the general directors and commissioners of the provincial and hospital health authorities of the region. During the summit, the current progress of the vaccination campaign was analyzed and, at the request of Spirlì and Longo, useful solutions were identified to increase the administration of doses throughout the region.
SPIRLÌ: “ESSENTIAL DECISIONS”
“The need to stop the advance of Covid and its variants – says Spirlì – leads us to make essential decisions. We all know that the people most attacked by the English variant are the youngest. We cannot afford to bring this shock wave to medical care and we must necessarily take appropriate action. One of the first is this: schools stop for two weeks. During this period we will begin the vaccination of school personnel that will be made available. No one will enter the school, except in cases of proven disability. The rest of the young people will study from home with the remote connection ».
As for the vaccination campaign, “it continues with the necessary adjustments. Today we took stock of the people already vaccinated and launched a complementary plan, in addition to the one already present. Another 32 vaccination points will be opened, in addition to the current 78. I strongly requested that the categories of disabled and pathological be added to the categories already authorized, including the above, together with caregivers and partners, also with general practitioners. I will follow everything personally, also visiting the vaccination centers to see how the service is provided.
