He walks the corridors of the Obi and then, from time to time, lies down to recover more and more those indispensable strengths, along with therapies and treatments administered by those medical personnel “of a rare humanity” of the Holy Trinity of Cagliari who, during about a week, they are trying to get you to recover from Covid-19. She, Simona Cicala, 50, volunteer 118 for three and a half years, shift supervisor at Alpha 54 Misericordia in Quartu Sant’Elena, fights with all her strength to be able to return to a normal life and not in “coexistence” with the virus: “On November 9, at the Marino hospital, a positive swab and a CT scan found bilateral pneumonia. I came home to be treated with cortisone, cardioaspirin, zinc, and gastroprotective. Then, however, the fever at 39, the cough and the unbearable pains did not pass and I called 118. Since Monday I have been hospitalized, ”she says, directly from her bed in the room that, before the emergency, housed the children. orthopedists. As a volunteer, 118 has seen the Cicala cooked and raw.

“But only when you really go into the wards and notice the suffering of the patients and the great work of the doctors, nurses and Oss, can you really understand what coronavirus is. There are people who use the ‘helmet’ to breathe, I have more I’m lucky but I still have a bad cough and just a couple of days ago the back pain subsided a bit ”.

The fifty-year-old chooses to tell her ordeal also to send a message to the outside world, especially to those who do not consider the virus worrisome or, worse still, deny its existence: “Deniers, be ashamed. Do one thing: go to the hospitals and visit the wards, but without gloves, visors and masks, of course. We’ll talk about that later, ”says the 50-year-old. “This virus is sneaky and exhausting. Today I will make a new swab, I hope the result is negative. I know that I am fighting for my life.
