He carries her on his shoulders and goes down the steps that lead to via Fratelli Castiglioni. It is here, behind a wall and on the floor of a flowerbed, where violence occurs. A few steps from Garibaldi station, in one of the most emblematic places of the new Milan. In that square, Gae Aulenti has become an advertising stage, with the Porta Nuova skyscrapers and the glow of the horizon. And perhaps that is why it is even more exciting to reread the testimony of the victim, the point-by-point reconstructions of the investigators, the horror of what happens one August night in the heart of Milan.
Reconstruction
This story, as is often the case in crime news, starts from the end. Since 05.58 on that Monday, when a police car sees a girl staggering confusedly between Viale della Liberazione and Via Melchiorre Gioia. When the patrol approaches, the woman calls for help and says she was raped by an Egyptian. He drank, he cannot clearly indicate where it happened but he remembers meeting that boy a few hours before in Piazza Gae Aulenti: “He took me by the neck, he said ‘you are mine, now come with me.” who lives in Milan, has bruises on his neck and legs. The victim is taken to the assistance for sexual violence in Mangiagalli, the doctors immediately understand that he was undoubtedly the victim of “a very violent attack.” Biological samples of a man in clothes. However, the 34-year-old woman is in shock and at first does not feel like putting everything on the record. Despite the absence of a lawsuit, Deputy Prosecutor Letizia Mannella and Prosecutor Michela Bordieri decide not to wasting time: Police officers from the Fourth Mobile Section, who deal with sex offenders, begin collecting cameras and leads before time compromises the investigation.
The three friends
The next day, the girl returns to the police offices. I will not tell anyone. I was afraid that she would kill me. I tried to save myself. However, the nightmare continues and the 23-year-old abuses her a second time. Nobody realizes what is happening, nobody raises the alarm.
The investigations
The mobile police officers, led by Marco Calì, confirm the 34-year-old’s story point by point thanks to the cameras. The three boys arrive by scooter at 11:39 p.m. At 11:52 p.m. they approach the victim, minutes later two leave but one returns for a few moments at 12:48 a.m. with a rented scooter. The alleged rapist also has a scooter, but it is his and there is no possibility of tracking it. Instead, the renter has a GPS, so investigators can track the account and names of the three friends. The alleged perpetrator is 22 years old, of Egyptian descent, clean background, decent family.
