In the last weekend before Christmas, and especially before the restrictions decided by the government for the holidays to curb the coronavirus infection, there is an exodus on roads and highways, an almost depleted of trains (although with a very small capacity ) and even the shopping fever in the center of the big cities.

In particular a Rome downtown streets were stormed in the afternoon. The Romans found themselves walking and struggling with Christmas shopping. Via del Corso was overrun especially after 2pm and there were long lines in front of the shops. The momentary closure to pedestrian traffic has been activated. Even on the roads there is a lot of traffic, especially on the Tangenziale Est that enters the city. In the late afternoon, the Spagna and Flaminio metro A stations were closed, precisely to prevent other people from arriving in an already crowded area. The closure was ordered by the authorities and in both stations the trains passed without stopping.

Crowds also in the downtown streets Milanespecially on shopping streets. In the Piazza del Duomo and the adjacent Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, where the entrances are regulated by the local police, there were many people around and queuing in front of the shops. Everyone wore masks while it was more difficult, like last weekend, to keep their distance. The entrance turnstiles in some Milan metro stations have been closed 300 times to avoid crowds and guarantee the capacity of vehicles to 50% and no more. The figure at 16 was 150 closures, at 19 – they explain from Atm – it practically doubled. Those with the highest number of closures (although only a few minutes to release the docks) were the interchange stations with the most travelers: Duomo, Centrale and Loreto. Specifically, line 1 is the one with the most access that day.

The Christmas decree and the rules

The same scenes from north to south, also a Naples me Torino, where on the busiest streets social distancing has become a chimera. Hundreds of thousands of Italians left in the same hours, most to go home for Christmas before the restrictions. Queues have formed on motorways, especially at tolls. In Melegnano, south of Milan, the queue reached 9 kilometers in the morning and then thinned out in the following hours. Even the trains were chosen by many to leave the cities, but the State Railways did not report any problems.
