shopping centers closed, shops open until 9:00 p.m.

Avoid the scenes that were seen last weekend: crowds on the shelves, meetings on the shopping streets. This is the reflection on the basis of government decisions on Christmas shopping, rules contained in the draft of the Dpcm sent to the Regions. And therefore: the stores are open on holidays until 9:00 p.m., to allow the distribution of the entrance of the clients in the longest possible time. As for the shopping centers, there is no reopening on weekends.

“Until January 6, 2021, the exercise of retail commercial activities is allowed until 9:00 p.m. On holidays and days prior to holidays, commercial establishments are closed in markets and shopping centers, shopping galleries, shopping parks, business combinations and other similar structures, with the exception of pharmacies, parapharmacies, health centers, food, agricultural products. and floriculture, tobacconists, kiosks », reads the draft.

CLOSED NUMBER

Shopping centers are an opportunity for recreation at Christmas without large family gatherings and transfers outside of your municipality of residence, so the blinds will remain closed. The decision to extend the opening hours of the points of sale, on the other hand, should represent an antidote to the gatherings, but it is obvious that on the hottest days around Christmas it is not enough: buying at four in the afternoon is definitely more tempting. To avoid crowds during peak hours, governors and mayors may sign ordinances to close the main streets and squares, block the entrances to the busiest streets where only a limited number of people can enter. Local police officers and law enforcement agencies, which are responsible for regulating influxes, are already alerted. In fact, the Ministry of the Interior has invited the prefects and Quaestors to intensify controls to guarantee a possibly risk-free Christmas shopping.

LESS GIFTS

In the last weekend, to tell the truth, there were more spectators who looked at the windows than those who entered to buy. A milder thirteenth, economic uncertainty and restrictions stemming from the pandemic will curb household consumption in December, with an expected drop of 12% compared to last year. From almost 9,000 million euros in 2019, it will increase to 7,300 million in 2020, indicates Confcommercio. Unfortunately, many will be forced to give up gifts: Last year 87% gave at least one gift, today only 74% can afford it. “It is a difficult time, but there is a desire to start again”, says the president of the merchants association, Carlo Sangalli. Those who can will spend only slightly less on gifts than last year: 164 euros each, compared to almost 170 in 2019. And mayors are lining up to support local activities. “When I walk through the streets of Rome, I look at the shop windows and think of all the people who work there. There are women, men, children, entire families who are working hard to face all the difficulties that this period has presented. We have to support these people, we have to keep the stores in the city alive. We can do this by logging in and buying something. We can do it safely, without creating crowds and keeping our distance “, writes the mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi in a post on Facebook.

SHOCK WITH THE AOSTA VALLEY

Today the #IoComproFiorentino communication campaign kicks off in Florence, desired by Mayor Dario Nardella to support the city’s trade, crafts and entrepreneurship. “We are very close to our artisans and our businesses and in these difficult months we have intervened repeatedly to support them in various ways – said the Councilor for Commerce Federico Gianassi – They represent an irreplaceable social and cultural protection, so we decided with the mayor to launch this heartfelt appeal to our entire city: let’s buy Florentine from this difficult Christmas. We will not only make nice gifts but we will also make a contribution to the resistance and the restart of our activities, maintaining an economic, cultural and social presence that cannot be lost. Invitation to go shopping at the stores and points of sale close to the house also in Friuli Venezia Giulia: “Let’s not forget that they provided valuable support, especially to the weakest sectors of the population, during the closure.” The opening of the stores, however, is not only solidarity, but also a confrontation between the government and Valle D’Aosta, the red zone. The Regional Minister for Autonomous Affairs Francesco Boccia invited the President of the Autonomous Community Erik Lavevaz to revoke the ordinance with which he ordered the reopening of local stores on Tuesday, despite the blocking of activities in which the Region is still present. In the letter, Minister Boccia recalls “the responsibilities that could arise from the application of the measures introduced in terms of maintenance of health networks.” Because shopping, in the pandemic phase, is one of the highest risk activities.
