MESTRE Moments of fear last night at the Mestre Ospedale train station due to an accident that only fate did not want to end in tragedy.
It was around 8.30pm yesterday when – for reasons that are being investigated by railway police – a twenty-year-old couple, a boy and a girl, were run over by a train that was crossing the station between Auchan and the Angelo de Mestre hospital.
The two young people, rescued by the Suem 118 doctors and by the Mestre firefighters, were taken to the hospital due to the injuries suffered by the impact with the convoy: they are under close medical observation but from the first controls they would not be in danger of life.
The dynamics remain mysterious. One of the two would have slipped from the sidewalk to the embankment just as a train was arriving: the other ran to help and managed to save it from the tracks. The driver himself had noticed what was happening and applied the brake, managing to stop the movement of the locomotive, which was already slow because it was at the station. The blow, however, was: the two boys were snatched from the middle and thrown not far, but alive. It is not clear if it was the girl who first slipped on the tracks and risked her life and the young man helped her or vice versa. What seems certain is that neither of them was going to kill her.
The Mestre hospital station, a few months ago, had been at the center of another story: the suicide of a child who had been in hospital treatment for some time.
