An electoral college was closed in Genoa because the president was ill overnight, with a high fever and symptoms attributable to Covid. It is a headquarters in the popular 323rd district of Oregon. The president underwent examinations overnight and this morning there was a regular replacement in his place. The electoral college was inaugurated but later closed as a precaution, pending the result of the swabbing of the president and the scrutineers who, yesterday, had been in contact with him.
The section was reopened after a few hours of closure. The premises have been cleaned up and all the voting station personnel have been replaced. We are still waiting to find out if the replaced president has been infected or not.
Voting takes place regularly in all municipalities in Liguria where both referendum and regional votes are cast. In 16 small municipalities they also vote to elect mayors.
In some cases, election officials found voters ready to vote even before the opening. In Genoa, in particular, in a polling station there were people waiting at 6.30 in the rain. Often the operations are carried out in a few minutes, everyone wears masks and uses the available disinfectant gels. There were some queues in Levanto and Lerici, where municipalities also vote. In many cases, as in Sarzana, civil protection volunteers are in action to keep the lines in order but there are no problems.
