On the one hand the lack of spaces, on the other the first cases of Coronavirus that make it difficult to start. The restart of the school in Sicily is an obstacle course.
The last case refers to the “Melograno” nursery in via Monte San Calogero in Palermo, closed after a parent reported that it was positive for Coronavirus. Yesterday two other cases in Sicily, one refers to a kindergarten teacher in Erice Casasanta, on the outskirts of Trapani, the other an institution that includes Petrosino, a stone’s throw from Marsala, which for the moment closes its doors .
But in recent days the Coronavirus alarm has also affected other schools. For example, the didactic address “Alessandra Siragusa” of Pallavicino in Palermo, where an employee of the institute reported that she tested positive for Covid-19 and thus the complexes were closed and immediate sanitation occurred.
Last week 3 cases involved the province of Palermo: a high school student from Carini, a janitor from the Colozza-Bonfiglio school and a teacher from the commercial technical institute of Partinico were infected.
But the problems for restarting schools do not end there. In Paternò, in the Catanese area, parents ask for respect for the distancing in an elementary school and in protest some of them bring their children home. At Pantelleria, on the other hand, the staff shortage runs the risk of starting the school year amidst difficulties.
And speaking of personnel, the Anief union goes on the attack, denouncing the absence of support teachers. Only in Palermo, in fact, 800 would be missing. But another serious problem to be solved is that of the classrooms. In Palermo, for example, it would still take around seventy for the lessons to be taught regularly.
We would need the help of individuals willing to rent a place, but also of parish priests. It is no coincidence that the municipal councilor of the School, Giovanna Marano,n an article by Alessandra Turrisi in the Giornale di Sicilia on newsstands, He appealed to priests who lead parish communities that have spaces that can be used to house benches and students.
All the needs are concentrated around the axis of via Notarbartolo, from the complex logistical situation of the Rapisardi-Garibaldi comprehensive institute, to that of the Politeama institute, Pitrè-Alberico Gentili, Verdi.
Problems overcome for weeks at Garzilli Elementary School, where the caretaker Angela Mineo found the will of the Parish Priest of Regina Pacis, Don Pietro Bumbalo, to sell rooms to house four classes. Don Carmelo Vicari, parish priest of Sant’Ernesto and also episcopal vicar of the third vicariate, responded instead to the request for help from the Verdi integral institute in via Casella.
