Michael Ruben Rinaldi wins his first world Superbike race and takes Team GoEleven’s private Panigale V4 to the top step of the podium, after an incredible race, in which the young Italian rider maintained a pace that even five-time world champion Jonathan Rea could not sustain. Steadily circling at the pace of 1m50, Michael gained half a second per lap at Rea, second in the whole race but never able to get close to the Italian who only slowed down in the last three laps he will win with almost six seconds over the Kawasaki rider.
Third place for Chaz Davies author for the umpteenth time in a comeback race which took him to the eleventh lap behind Bautista who was in third position. Overtaking and counterattacking and then at Turn 14 the Spaniard lost the lead and ended his career in the sand of the escape route. But Bautista’s was not the most striking fall of this career. On lap eight, Scott Redding was defending his third place from attacks by the Honda rider when he crashed into Turn 5. unable to resume the race. A bad blow for the English Ducati who sadly returned to his garage consoled by his technicians. A fantastic day for Rinaldi, but a very important race for Rea, who now has a 30-point lead over Redding.
Van der Mark and Razgatlioglu finished fourth and fifth respectively never being able to enter the fight for the podium. Behind them, a small group of five riders consisting of Lowes, Haslam, Laverty, Caricasulo and Sykes finished in order. The rookie Ferrari scores two points, while Melandri retired during the eighth lap. Besides Bautista and Redding, a crash also for Scheib.
