I should have returned to classes in the fourth secondary school today with the reopening of schools in Veneto, but due to a terrible traffic accident which took place yesterday in San Donà di Piave, that bench reserved for her was forever empty. A sudden and unbearable death that of Sara Ruffato, 17 years old, involved in a dramatic head-on collision while sitting as a passenger in the car, driven by a friend, who was supposed to take her out to sea. Sunday was supposed to be the teenager’s last day of vacation, a last weekend at the beach with the family before the resumption of the daily routine.

The day had started early with an early morning departure to reach the Venetian coast. The car with the two children initially followed that of the parents and other relatives of the 16-year-old, but then the two cars were lost from sight. The father, no longer seeing the car her daughter was traveling in, started calling but Sara never answered mine. Shortly before, a terrible accident at the junction of the road that leads to the sea had removed her forever from the affection of her loved ones. Heartbreaking news not only for Sara’s parents, brother and family, but for an entire community in Camposampiero where the Ruffato family lives and where Sara has always been involved in social and sports activities.

“Terrible news. A life cut short in the prime of his youth, on a Sunday that was supposed to be fun and serenity. I express my closeness to the family, although there are no words that can alleviate such great pain. A big hug for Sara’s mother and father, two good, positive and helpful people, a dear family. Camposampiero huddles around him, in this great pain, ”said the mayor of the Venetian town, Katia Maccarrone. An immense pain even among the scouts of the Camposampiero group, of which Sara was a part since she was little, and in the volleyball team in which the girl played. For the entire school company of the 17-year-old a resumption of lessons made of tears, pain and silence.
