Matteo Salvini, leader of the Lega, the main opposition party, in all areas of Orizzonte Scuola. The secretary of the Northern League party bluntly attacks the work of the Minister of Education, Lucía Azzolina: from the management of the Covid-19 emergency to that of extraordinary competition.

Senator Salvini, this summer you were very critical of the work of the government and the Ministry of Education. How do you judge the current situation, do you think more could have been done?

“Unfortunately, the chaos in which we live today and which means hardships and concerns for hundreds of thousands of families, boys and girls, boys and girls, is the announced result of seven months that Minister Azzolina spent on taking it out on me and squandering public money behind crazy things, like the infamous wheeled benches. The latter is an absurd fact, which only thanks to the League has emerged even in its unclear outlines in terms of contracts and supplies. ”

A judgment, therefore, on his work?

“Rejected without appeal.”

Minister Azzolina has assured several times that the school is a safe place, infections occur outside the school. What you think? Are you in tune with Azzolina on this? Should the school continue to attend?

“If the school has not become an epidemic, I think it is mainly thanks to the students, managers, collaborators and teachers. The same ones that, I bet, the government would have blamed if things had turned out differently. After almost a year we have understood how the management of the pandemic works according to Conte: the merits are always his, while the blame increasingly falls on the young people who go to the bar, those who take the bus … It really is a improper attitude, all the more towards the Italian citizens who throughout the confinement gave a lesson in intelligence and discipline that astonished the whole world ”.

Senator, in two days the extraordinary competition will begin with more than 60 thousand candidates. Also in this case, Minister Azzolina reassures us: there is no danger. You were critical, your group asked for a contest just for the title. Don’t you think that the contest can guarantee a greater selection and quality of teachers?

“This contest is crazy! How can you think of moving such a large mass of people, while virologists scream for contagion and hospitals prepare for a second wave? I hope that President Mattarella will intervene, because let’s not forget that it was he as Minister of Education who conceived the so-called double channel that would allow the Government to stabilize all precarious school workers tomorrow morning by filling too many staff gaps. Until a few weeks ago there were still around 60,000 vacant chairs, of which another 65,000 corresponded to support teachers for disabled students, not counting the 40,000 to fill the places left by those occupied in other positions. In total we are talking about 160,000 units: a pity that in a normal country it would be enough to resign ”.

The majority has been divided in recent days between those who wanted a soft close and those who wanted a more decisive intervention, the former won. Many already anticipate another upcoming DPCM. What would she do?

“I would have bet everything on the self-discipline of the Italians who so far have proven to be much more attentive, responsible and wise than those who govern them. More than absurd bans and nightly decrees, I think a government worthy of the name should have used the summer to hire doctors and nurses, as well as install more beds and intensive care. At the school level, the problem of space could be solved by renting empty classrooms in private schools, to avoid overcrowding and at the same time support a sector that is at risk of definitive collapse. Furthermore, avoiding classes in chicken coops by establishing a maximum limit of 14 students per teacher as proposed by the League, not only would have represented an additional safety tool, but would also have represented an opportunity to improve the quality of teaching ”.

Minister Azzolina announced that she had filed a complaint against him for publications that she considered “sexist.” In fact, he’s been targeting her quite a bit all summer, don’t you think you’ve exaggerated?

“I do not even respond to these accusations, they are so absurd and even dangerous, to the point that they run the risk of wasting us more precious time.”

Would you like to ask the Minister a question through our pages? Maybe he will answer you too.
