The Civil protection of the Campania region issued a notice of Weather alert for rains and storms with hydrogeological criticality of Orange valid from 6 a.m. tomorrow and until 6 a.m. on Saturday throughout the regional territory except for zone 4 (Alta Irpinia and Sannio) where the alert level is yellow.
“Generalized rainfall, including setbacks and storms, locally of strong intensity. The western winds tend to be strong during the day with gusts in storms. The sea tends to get rough, with possible swells along the exposed coasts ”.
This meteorological image could give rise to phenomena such as:
– Instability of slopes, locally even deep, shallow landslides and rapid flows of debris or mud;
– significant surface runoff, even with transport of material, possible chasms due to erosion phenomena;
– flooding of underground rooms and the ground floor;
– elevation of the hydrometric levels of smaller waterways, with flooding phenomena in neighboring areas, also as a result of local criticalities (burial, narrowing, occlusions of bridge lights);
– Surface flow of water in the streets and possible phenomena of regurgitation of rainwater with overflowing and affecting depressed urban areas;
– Possible rock falls at various points in the territory;
Occasional landslides linked to particularly fragile hydrogeological conditions, due to the effects induced by the forest fires that occurred in the regional territory.
Only in zone 4, where the alert is yellow, the precipitation will be scattered, even in reverse and temporary characters, locally of moderate intensity. Winds will be out of the west tending to be strong during the day with gusts in thunderstorms.
Here the ground impact scenarios include:
– Surface runoff with possible material transport phenomena;
– Possible flooding of the underground rooms and those on the ground floor;
– Surface water flow on highways and possible regurgitation phenomena of rainwater evacuation systems with overflowing and affecting depressed urban areas;
– Elevation of the hydrometric levels of smaller watercourses, with flooding of neighboring areas, also due to local criticalities (filling, narrowing, etc.);
Occasional landslides linked to particularly fragile hydrogeological conditions, due to the effects induced by forest fires that occurred in the regional territory.
The Civil Protection of the Campania Region emphasizes that this is the first orange meteorological alert that follows the summer months and that it is also necessary to take into account the damages related and consequent to forest fires. Therefore, the competent authorities are invited to pay close attention to the areas affected by fires and not yet recovered. We also invite you to ensure the control and correct sealing of the urban drainage and / or water disposal works, verifying that they are in an adequate state of cleanliness and free of material that obstructs the flow of water. The same attention should be paid to drains, gutters, sewers. Therefore, the competent bodies are recommended to implement all the measures aimed at preventing and counteracting the expected phenomena in relation to the phenomena related to hydrogeological instability, as well as verifying the correct sealing of the structures exposed to the efforts of the winds and the movement of the waves.
