Milik’s purchase from Napoli would not automatically lead to the departure of Edin Dzeko: Roma could return to form with two ‘real’ points.
However, it moves. The transfer market of Rome, which seemed an infinite stand-by, begins to register some shaking.
So far, just a few days after the league debut in Verona, the Giallorossi have added only the Spanish to the squad available for Fonseca Pedro losing, compared to last year’s team, Zappacosta, Kalinic, Kolarov and especially Smalling.
Zaniolo’s injury has further complicated Mr. Fonseca’s plans, who, without centrals, had to try Cristante at the center of the 3-man defense (with not exactly exciting results) and only one role point is on the staff, Dzeko, without any alternative.
Edin Dzeko, captain and bomber, who always seems to be on the starting foot. Juventus, which, however, seems closer to Suarez, keeps him warm, perhaps like Plan B. Inter, on the other hand, once they find out the news of Lautaro Martínez’s stay seems to have taken him off the wish list that instead saw him in pole position in case of the Argentine’s departure.
The news of an assault on Arek Milik came last night: Roma had followed the Polish forward, now on the run with Napoli, even before landing in Italy, and now the deal could be closed. But it is not said that the arrival of Milik must necessarily lead to the sale of Dzeko. First, the two can play together, secondly Fonseca has never denied the possibility of adopting a form with two real points.
Following Zaniolo’s injury, the 3-4-1-2 (or 4-3-1-2) becomes an option for the Giallorossi, with Pilgrims (which could also be useful at the midfield line) and Mkhitaryan to compete for the role of offensive midfielder and the various Pedro, Carlos Perez and Kluivert to represent the alternatives for the attackers in case Fonseca prefers not to opt for the ‘heavy’ pair or wants to give one of the two a turn to rest.
Also, in defense, the imminent arrival of Kumbulla it would allow Fonseca to have three central roles (with Ibáñez and Mancini), four if Smalling returned to the Giallorossi. A perfect roster to adopt the 4-man defense and perhaps kidnap Ibanez to the right to address the lack of a reliable side role.
And then there are the layoffs: many, too many. Of John jesus a Shepherd, what passes through Saint and at least one of Kluivert and Under, but also Perotti, Olsen, Coric and so.
This is the image of Roma four days after their league debut and twenty days after the close of the transfer market. There is work to be done, but now something is really moving.
