The Integrated Digital Education guidelines offer us some suggestions on how to make and be a support teacher when “your” disabled student, the student you follow face to face, side by side, is on the other side of the screen.

Sounds like an oxymoron: distance support teacher. But what do you claim from afar? Is it not once again the family that must support, if the support teacher is far away? In fact, it seems like it was in the school year that just ended. The supporting teacher has become everyone’s and nobody’s teacher. Sitting in front of his PC, in his chair, he tried to provide support to his colleague or colleague during the lesson, as little as the conditions allowed. And sometimes with benefit, who denies it? Sometimes even with benefit for the disabled or autistic child, at least in terms of understanding the family mechanisms behind certain dynamics. Some support teachers say that observing the relationship between mother and child on the other side of the screen has provided them with useful diagnostic and operative indications, because a pathology is not only a pathology but also a pathology in context. And the DaD has sometimes revealed the context. And so far everything is fine.

What strategy?

That said, however, let’s not deny it, the negative aspects of associating DaD and disability, distance learning and a support teacher, are considerable.

But as we said: the guidelines on Integrated Digital Education offer us some suggestions. Basically they come down to this: the support teacher prepares individualized and personalized material to be used daily by the student who needs support, to allow them to work on the different learning units. But the support teacher does this from school, whether her student is in school or the student is working from home in a distance learning session.
