T he survey conducted today with a view to the regional elections to be held on September 20 and 21 worries Marche, a region always administered by center-left councils from 1995 onwards. The outgoing president, Luca ceriscioli, he has renounced to request a second term, that’s why the center left has chosen Maurizio Mangialardi, exponent of Democratic party, Mayor of Senigallia and president of Anci Marche, known by 44% and liked by 25% from the Marche region. The center right has nominated Francesco Acquaroli, known to 47% of voters and welcomed by 28%, Fratelli exponent from Italy, already in the race five years ago when the current coalition was divided. For the 5 Star Movement it is presented Gian Mario Mercorelli known by 18% and what they like 9%. To these are added five other candidates, whose level of knowledge and satisfaction at the moment seems rather content.
The voting guidelines show a true reversal of the political scene compared to what has happened in the last 25 years in the region: center right credited with an advantage of more than 13 points over the center left. Estimating a 59% participation in the vote, Acquaroli with 49% of the preferences prevails over Mangialardi which stands at 35.8%and Mercorelli, which reaches 10.1%. The other five candidates obtained a much lower consensus, around 1%. Acquaroli’s advantage appears to be due more to the strength of his coalition parties than to the disappointment of the outgoing Ceriscioli-led government. In fact, positive opinions (53%) largely prevail over negative ones (33%), also thanks to the way the health emergency was managed.
Even center-right voters do not skimp on appreciation (46% speak positively). The truth is that 54% want a change compared to 30% that favors continuity. And yet, among center-left voters, a far from insignificant minority (29%) would like discontinuity. Regarding the lists, there is a very clear advantage of the Lega, credited by 25.7%, close to double that obtained in the previous Regional.. It is followed by the Democratic Party with 19%, below 2015, then Fratelli d’Italia with 16.7%, a sharp increase compared to the Regional of 2015 and the Europeans of last year. Then the M5S with 10.1%, a decrease compared to previous rounds when it obtained between 18 and 19% of the votes, on a par with Mangialardi’s list as president.
It should be noted that, unlike what happens in other regions where presidential candidates also obtain votes from voters of opposing parties, Separate voting between party and candidate is not allowed in this region. Although three weeks before the elections there is a fairly high proportion of undecided about the candidate’s vote (17.2%) and the list (20.8%), in general in Marche there is a demand for a change in the leadership of the region, in a phase characterized by great concern about the economic crisis. The positive assessments of the outgoing president Ceriscioli therefore do not seem to be reflected in the center-left candidate, confirming that transitive ownership cannot always be applied in politics.
