Reggio Calabria, the seats canceled: tomorrow they should have opened

The stalls for the “Festa di Madonna” will not be built. Like the rides, like the procession, like fireworks. The party jumps in toto for the prevention regarding the Coronavirus. The decision on the posts was made this morning by the city authorities in a meeting urgently called by the Prefecture. It was the ASP of Reggio Calabria that expressed a negative opinion about the event “due to the risk of spreading Covid-19“Explaining that the meetings in the positions cannot be avoided and declining all responsibility. Such a high number of people, for so many days, in constant presence in the area, would undoubtedly have caused difficulties for the inhabitants and patrons, due to the high influx of people in the same area. There are many alternatives that are presented to the table: initially it was decided to create a total closure of the area, limiting the accesses and imposing a maximum number with limited and controlled accesses. But the police have shown that it is impossible to carry out such a strict control in the surroundings of the Botteghelle square, an open space with infinite doors. The ability to move them to a more controllable area for entrances and exits is immediately skipped due to tight deadlines. The stalls, in fact, were scheduled for tomorrow and the vendors would begin assembling tonight. They have already come to town from outside Reggio, and this morning they had protested to the municipality for the too high price (about a thousand euros of occupation of public land for 5 days), which was not specified in the call. The Municipality, at the meeting, explained that in reality there are already many social gatherings in the city, in the Lidos, on the Via Marina, in the markets, and it was the only actor who promised to try to save the event. . But he found himself alone and did not want to take full responsibility for such a high risk. So in the end the stalls won’t even be built. With a decision made a few hours after opening.

It would probably have been enough to avoid all this chaos and the consequent inconvenience, a strong upstream political decision: for a year, nothing is done. Feast of the Virgin, jump in toto. The result was still this, but after endless ping-pong yes, no, maybe, who knows. And one more demonstration of an incapable and inadequate political class.
