An emotional phone call to “112” from a crying woman, who announces that she is about to kill herself by jumping off a cliff, perhaps a last attempt to seek help before the last act, which did not happen also thanks to the attentive, reactive and professional intervention of the Carabinieri of the Taurianova Company.
The desperate telephone story of a fifty-year-old man from the Piana di Gioia Tauro, in a strong state of agitation, was heard by an operator from the Taurianova Operations Center who, including the seriousness of the situation, began a long conversation with a calm and serene tone, reassuring the interlocutor, managing to take time and be told where he was, where he was going and by what means. As soon as it learned that the interlocutor was going to an area of Aspromonte driving her own car, the switchboard, without ever losing contact, brought a patrol from the Carabinieri Station in Cittanova to the place – already identified at that point. . Once there, the military identified the woman beyond the asphalt road, in a wooded area right on the edge of a cliff about ten meters high.
The two carabinieri began a dialogue to reassure the woman, who, however, told them not to approach, otherwise she would have thrown herself into the void. The great patience and willingness to intervene in a moment of distraction of the woman, has allowed the military to reach her and bring her safely. Soon after, local health and social services arrived on the scene and the 50-year-old man, who was not injured, received all necessary care.
