L’Aquila. The debate is on about the “red zone” that the governor of Abruzzo Marco Marsilio, at the proposal of the mayor of L’Aquila Pierluigi Biondi, is about to establish throughout the regional territory to limit the spread of the coronavirus infection. Claudia Pagliariccio, already a candidate for mayor of L’Aquila, is to intervene on the health emergency and the issue of schools, which is causing divisions within the same center-right majority.
“The hospital emergency that broke out in our city and also in the rest of the province,” says Pagliariccio, “is the result of the disastrous policies of cuts in health costs sustained over time by all successive governments. For years, in compliance with the dictates of the European Union and the technocrats of Mario Monti, it was thought of raising cash saving on the health of citizens and today, in a situation of stress due to Covid-19, reality presents us the bill ”. .
“Faced with this,” continues the politician, “however, you have to react clearly and without being carried away by the impulses of the moment: you cannot first go out to the streets with the restaurateurs against the closures imposed by the Dpcm and then, after just a few weeks, to demand the establishment of an even more rigid “red zone” than the one envisaged by the government. I am thinking in particular of the press advances that Abruzzo schools of all levels will be closed, while the national regulation of the “red zone” provides for distance education exclusively from the second grade onwards. A total closure, in addition to new social costs for children due to the limited risks of contagion, would also cause considerable inconvenience to all those parents who carry out work activities not affected by the closure, which will not even be able to enjoy the extraordinary leave approved at the national level. “.
“I therefore urgently ask”, concludes Pagliariccio, “the Regional Council and, in particular, Governor Marsilio, to adopt balanced decisions in the interest of all citizens: the need to stop contagion must be balanced with that of protecting psychological well-being of the children and the needs of the families of Abruzzo “.
